How do your chosen texts attract their audiences?

My chosen text, 'Lost' uses a range of different ways to attract their chosen audience through technical codes and audience theory.

On the island while looking for his dog Vincent, Walt discovers a pair of handcuffs. His search is accompanied by a low toned bass sound in the background which adds to the mystery. The audience would be able to tell by the non diagetic background music that something is wrong, they may question the fact that the boy is alone. The ambient noise of the forest adds to the realism. Walt's dad Michael appears and the music drains into the background which gives the sense to the audience that everything is okay. However Walt then hands over the pair of handcuffs to his dad, here a close up is used to show the facial expressions on Michaels face, he is unsure and the close up is accompanied by the non diagetic sound again before cutting to black with a loud drone sound. This is an enigma code as the audience would want to know who the hand cuffs belong to and so they would want to watch more.

The next scene cuts to a fight between Sawyer and Sayed, the audience may find conflict entertaining and throughout the scene Sawyer is portrayed as the villain according to the theory of Propp. The fight sequence is accompanied by over the shoulder shots to show the action and to put the audience in the characters position.
